I recommend reading the RSA's "mission statement"; it is as pure a distillation of New Labour bollockery as you could ever find, most of it utterly unrelated to the arts, and anything the RSA might before the 1997 putsch was doing.

I wrote them a letter asking them how come they had been co-opted into this madness - and got a very snotty reply indeed.

They are just another public body suborned by the Fifth Column that is NL.

Excellent article. Thank you

There's some decent weed being smoked where that paper was drafted:

"While it would not be appropriate in the UK context for a Bill of Rights and Responsibilities to impose a series of new legally enforceable duties upon individuals,"

Someone clearly hasn't been reading their Home Office state-control instruction manual (unless it is an "Animal Farm" inspired attempt to reduce our laws to one - "Do as you're told or else".)

There's also this:

"Loyalty to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as concern for the common good, shall be the duty of every British citizen."

Oh, sorry, they're talking about Poland! I mean, the very next paragraph:

"The Parliament recognises that persons conferred British citizenship enjoy these rights and undertake to accept these obligations:

• by pledging loyalty to Britain and its people; and
• by sharing their democratic beliefs; and
• by respecting their rights and liberties; and
• by upholding and obeying the laws of Britain."

Aaargh, no, that's Australia. You see, we would be able to get rid of most of the Salafist and Sharia agitators and, just 'cause he's irritating, Tatchell can go back to the Antipodes.

About the best thing we can say for this is that there is no chance of Gordon being able to grandstand it's introduction in 2015. Even assuming that Dave and his motley crew are cretinous enough (which they show every sign of attempting) to lose the next election, the Labour party will self-destruct if the Phantom Nokia Flinger of Great London Town remains at its helm.
