An interesting follow up to how the pro-consensus crowd are spinning climate scepticism. BBC's Richard Black has done some investigating, and discovered that climate sceptics are all crazy-eyed, middle class, white males. And, of course, Nick Griffin is provided as a classic example of what a climate sceptic really looks and thinks like.

<a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/richardblack/2009/12/cop15_questions_about_sex.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/richardblack/2009/12/cop15_questions_about_sex.html</a>

He demonstrates this by listing some women on both sides of the debate, managing to quote two in the "pro" camp (neither of whom are particularly active in the media) and no less than five female sceptics.

So... despite sceptics being a tiny minority (we're not a consensus, after all), and being all male, he still manages to locate more prominent female sceptics than on the pro side. It's a shame he doesn't have the honesty to reference them by name (the Australians - I assume - are Jo Nova and Jennifer Marohasy).

He also notes Monckton's rather petulent comparison of climate activists to the Hitler Youth (a line of which I do not approve), questioning whether a woman would indulge in such inappropriate behaviour. Perhaps he should ask Muriel Strand, who explicitly compared climate sceptics to holocaust deniers? Mind you, that would have required the whole research thing.

I showed this to my girlfriend, who is also a climate sceptic, and her response started "the sexist ..." followed by some language that would make a one-eyed carpenter blush.

BBC journalism really dredging the depths here.

Sorry for the long rant on this, but Black got me pretty pissed off, and the BBC spin here seems to fall into line with the content of the this post.

Implicit in the label "denial" is surely Holocaust denial, which is why it should be avoided. The attempt is to smear all clear-thinking AGW sceptics as racists, so their views may be discounted.

We need a positive label (if there must be a label), so why not refer to sceptics as "optimists" instead?

Given the fact that the BNP is more left-wing than Labour in economic matters, it is rather confusing for Ward to say ‘Climate change denial is the new article of faith for the far right.’
