These films annoy me, they never shown how people from Berlin would survive, how people in Birmingham would handle it, what would happen to those in Luxembourg, no, it's always either Washington or New York. There is life outside of the US, something that the film makers seem to have missed. And they never show a realistic ending either - we all know that if the electricity went off and the supermarkets stopped restocking, it would take roughly 3 weeks for society to entirely dissolve, as seen in New Orleans. Give it 2 months and we'd probably be eating each other but no, we never see that do we, it's always attractive people tentatively emerging into a new landscape looking gorgeous but with a couple of soot smudges on the forehead. And there's always too much science and not enough stuff getting destroyed for my liking.

The energy required to provide enough torque to move the Earth's angular momentum vector by 90° wouldn't make the oceans slop about. It would vaporise them. Rotational kinetic energy of the Earth is ~ 2 10^29 J.

Yeah, I read something similar. Just proves that nobody in Hollywood is too good for purloining and bastardising elements of ancient culture in the pursuit of fame and the almighty dollar.

I read a story recently about a Mayan mystic who says that people like Emmerich are idiots because his ancestors never predicted anything about the end of the world. Rather, they were just defining epochs on their calendar based on celestial patterns. Basically, 2012 is like the end of a really long year.

I think that's because Roland Emmerich, despite being German, thinks 'earth' and 'North America' are synonymous.

I watched the longest preview and noticed that it says something like "earth's oldest civilization warned us..." while showing pictures of Mayan pyramids.

These people do not give a shit about getting shit right.

Roland Emmerich: "Another slice of vacuous eye-candy slopped steaming from the gaping cultural cloaca of Hollywood?"
Mr Creosote: "Fak orf, I'm stuffed! I couldn't watch another one of your shitty orgies of monument-wrecking Americo-centric wank."

All these destructo-porn movies - ID4, Deep Impact, Mars Attacks, Day after Tomorrow, Numbers, Day The Earth Stood Still (In Name Only), etc. - are as tediously predictable and formalised in their narrative structure as slasher films or noh theatre. Life's too short.

You still put it more eloquent like...
